Apr. 25, 2023
PP bags and BOPP bags are two commonly used packaging materials in various industries. PP bags, short for polypropylene bags, are made from a type of thermoplastic polymer called polypropylene. BOPP bags, on the other hand, are made from a combination of polypropylene and a plastic film called biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP). While both types of bags have some similarities, there are several differences between them that make them suitable for different applications.
As mentioned, PP bags are made entirely from polypropylene, which is a versatile thermoplastic polymer that is widely used in various industries. Polypropylene is a lightweight, strong, and durable material that can withstand high temperatures and moisture, making it ideal for packaging products that require protection from environmental factors. PP bags are available in different thicknesses and sizes, and they can be manufactured using various printing techniques, including flexographic and gravure printing.
On the other hand, BOPP bags are made by laminating a thin layer of biaxially oriented polypropylene film onto a polypropylene woven bag. BOPP film is a plastic film that has been stretched in two directions to create a material that is strong, durable, and highly resistant to moisture and punctures. BOPP film is also transparent, which allows the printed design on the bag to be visible.
Both PP and BOPP bags can be customized with different designs, logos, and branding using various printing techniques. However, BOPP bags offer more printing options than PP bags. BOPP film can be printed using high-quality printing techniques such as rotogravure printing and digital printing, which can produce highly detailed and vivid images. Additionally, BOPP bags can be printed on both sides, while PP bags can only be printed on one side.
One of the significant differences between PP and BOPP bags is their transparency. BOPP bags are transparent, which allows the products inside to be visible. This feature is especially useful for products that need to be displayed on store shelves, such as snacks, candies, and other food items. PP bags, on the other hand, are not transparent and are usually opaque, making them ideal for products that require protection from light and UV rays.
PP bags and BOPP bags are both strong and durable, but BOPP bags have a higher tensile strength than PP bags. Tensile strength refers to the maximum amount of stress a material can withstand before breaking. BOPP bags have a higher tensile strength than PP bags because they are made by laminating a layer of BOPP film onto a polypropylene woven bag. This makes BOPP bags highly resistant to tears, punctures, and other types of damage, making them suitable for packaging heavy and bulky products.
Both PP and BOPP bags are resistant to moisture, but BOPP bags offer higher moisture resistance than PP bags. BOPP film has a high resistance to moisture, which makes it ideal for packaging products that need to be protected from moisture and humidity, such as snacks, pet food, and other perishable items. PP bags are also moisture-resistant, but they are not as effective as BOPP bags at preventing moisture from entering the bag.
